The Ancient Dragon Tree of Icod de los Vinos has undergone a thorough check-up: the latest technical report on the health and conservation status of the popular specimen from Tenerife was recently presented with excellent results.
According to the municipal corporation, the mayor of Icod de los Vinos, Javier Sierra, held a working meeting with the Technical Committee for the conservation and maintenance of the Dragon Tree, where they were informed of the good health condition of the specimen.
The technical report, which is part of the monitoring, maintenance, and conservation program, concludes that, in general, it shows a seemingly normal evolution. No incidences were observed that would indicate the need for extraordinary measures.

The study was carried out between October 2023 and March 2024 and has allowed for conservation and care actions to be developed. During this time, general cleaning actions were carried out to remove small weeds from around the trunk.
The team of specialists also verified that the stimulated roots continue to grow. In this same study process, it was found that the scale insect level remains within normal parameters.
Nevertheless, the report, signed by the agricultural technical engineer, José Manuel Luis Zamora, recommends to the Technical Committee a treatment for each season to control the scale insect infestation.
The monitoring, maintenance, and conservation of the Ancient Dragon Tree, a natural gem of the city, are consistent efforts carried out by specialists, the Technical Committee, and the City Council of Icod de los Vinos.
