SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 8th April. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Observing ‘World Romani Day’ on Monday, the Tenerife Cabildo provided a platform for seven groups belonging to the E Rroma Va Federation to present a manifesto.
Leading the event was the Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero, expressing gratitude for the solidarity displayed in commemorating the day, emphasising “the importance of increasing awareness, acknowledging the worth of the Romani people, and amplifying their voices to combat stereotypes and prejudices.”
The gathering was also attended by representatives from various governmental bodies such as the municipalities of Santa Cruz and La Laguna, the Canary Islands Parliament, and the Canary Islands Government, as stated in an official release from the Cabildo.
Through the reading of the manifesto, the organizations forming the Insular Table of the Romani People extended their thanks to all authorities for providing a platform to highlight this significant occasion for the Romani community. The date is celebrated on April 8 in remembrance of the First World Romani/Gypsy Congress held in London in 1971, during which the Romani flag and anthem were established.
Fumero remarked, “The Cabildo is dedicated to fostering the development of a more equitable and inclusive society in Tenerife, ensuring equal opportunities for all its residents.”
