A recent meeting was held by the technical committee responsible for the upkeep and preservation of the Millennia-Old Dragon Tree in Icod, a symbol of the city and Tenerife Island, with the municipal mayor, Javier Sierra. They discussed the health status of this remarkable specimen.
The technical report, which is part of the ongoing monitoring and conservation programme, indicates that the dragon tree is showing a normal evolution with no notable issues that require extraordinary measures.
This study, conducted between October 2023 and March 2024, has enabled the implementation of conservation and maintenance actions.
Cleaning operations have been performed to remove small weeds from around the trunk during this period. Additionally, the specialist team has confirmed the continuous growth of the stimulated roots, as reported by the City Council.
The study also confirmed that the level of scale insects remains within acceptable limits.
However, the report, prepared by agricultural technical engineer José Manuel Luis Zamora, recommends to the technical committee a seasonal treatment plan to manage the scale insects.
