The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, in collaboration with the Public Services and Strategic Planning department, is set to invest 1,996,557.62 euros in enhancing various tourist sites within the city, including Las Teresitas beach, the El Block and Los Charcos bathing areas, García Sanabria Park, and Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena. These enhancements are scheduled to be completed by December 31st of this year.

Santa Cruz Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlights that “The City Council consistently makes substantial efforts throughout the year to maintain the city in optimal conditions, and now is the time to focus on these iconic tourist spots that receive high footfall, aiming to uplift them for the recreation and enjoyment of both locals and visitors.”

On the other hand, Public Services and Strategic Planning Councillor, Carlos Tarife, states that “A total of 11 significant enhancements are planned to be carried out by the end of the year, signalling a considerable investment in these popular spots.” He also mentioned that “The City Council will persist in this approach to provide the city with vibrant recreational areas where people can gather and thrive.”

García Sanabria Park will witness two major improvements. The first allocation of 160,000 euros will involve standardizing the designs of poles and lights, replacing the latter with more environmentally friendly LED technology. The second enhancement, with a budget of 250,000 euros, focuses on enhancing the park’s surrounding pathways. These enhancements will be delivered through the Public Services lighting contract and the City Council’s Road maintenance firm.

With a total of 195,000 euros, the walkways on Las Teresitas beach are slated for renovation. This project will include a tender for the supply of wooden structures at each of the eleven beach accesses. The rollable and removable mats on the sand range from 20 to 40 meters as per the access point.

Furthermore, sporting and leisure activities with a budget of 468,000 euros will be introduced in the beach’s final section, both on land and in the water. These activities encompass temporary shaded areas for events, designated water game zones, event and training spaces, beach volleyball courts, service office containers, changing rooms, and storage facilities. A Red Cross service booth will also be set up, costing 180,000 euros.

For safety reasons, four lifeguard watchtowers comprising two large and two mobile towers will be installed at Las Teresitas beach, Los Charcos, and El Block, amounting to 96,000 euros. The enhancement project also involves upgrading real-time parking status information panels with an allocated budget of 251,557.62 euros, including platform installation, parking sensor integration, and improving traffic flow with an adaptive traffic light system.

Moreover, smart and individual lockers for bikes will be installed at the three bathing areas, costing 117,000 euros. Each bike rack comprises ten bike lockers and ten scooter lockers, each equipped with power sockets.

At Los Charcos bathing area in Valleseco, stainless steel sea access stairs are planned to be set up at a cost of 94,000 euros. An inclusive play area will also be installed to enhance the bathing experience, with a budget of 35,000 euros.

Lastly, through the contracted Road Maintenance company, the pedestrian pathways in Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena will be revamped, with an allocated budget of 150,000 euros.
