Since last Thursday, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife port has been graced by the presence of four “spectacular” United States Navy Vessels, specifically docked at the Los Llanos Dock and consigned on the Island by Alfaship.
The capital’s port is currently hosting the following four impressive vessels: USAV “Monterrey”, “Matamoros”, “SP/4 James A.Loux” and “Wilson Wharf”. The first three are scheduled to stay in Tenerife until Monday, while the last one will remain until April 18.
The “Monterrey” is designed for the transport of wheeled and tracked vehicles, containers, oversized cargo, and general cargo from offshore vessels to the coast and areas inaccessible to ocean-going vessels. It recently participated in a mission in the eastern Mediterranean Sea to construct a temporary port for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The “Matamoros” is also a vessel used for military operations by the United States Army. Its dimensions, at 53 meters in length and 13 meters in width, allow it to carry out various logistics and transportation operations. It has also played a part in the humanitarian mission in Gaza.
As for the “SP/4 James A.Loux”, it was acquired by the United States on September 30, 1994, and put into service the same year. It is capable of transporting any vehicle in the Army’s inventory, including up to 15 M1 Abrams main battle tanks or 82 ISO standard containers. Similar to the previous two vessels, it recently relocated to the conflict zone to establish a temporary dock to aid in the delivery of humanitarian assistance in Palestine.
Lastly, the “Wilson Wharf”, the fourth ship designated for North American force’s mission in Gaza, is presently stationed at Santa Cruz de Tenerife port, engaged in logistics and transportation activities.
