The initial component of the eleven-piece footbridge at the Padre Anchieta roundabout is already positioned at the roundabout entrance in La Laguna, awaiting installation. It reached its destination in the early hours of yesterday, around 3:00 a.m., after a meticulous operation involving its transfer from the Chicharrero port, considering its weight and size, which concluded without any incidents, as confirmed by the Cabildo.
The segment arrived last Thursday afternoon at the port of Santa Cruz, having been transported from Seville, where the island’s president, Rosa Dávila, alongside the Highways and Mobility councillors, Dámaso Arteaga and Eulalia García, were present. Arteaga mentioned that the installation of the segment was scheduled for the following week, emphasizing the need for “particular attention to welding and related tasks.”
In a statement released yesterday by the Cabildo, the island’s president underlined that this development marks “a crucial advancement in alleviating traffic congestion at the roundabout, a major bottleneck on the Northern highway as it traverses La Laguna. Moreover, it will enhance the safety of over 20,000 students who utilize the eight pedestrian crossings daily in an area accommodating 50,000 vehicles every day.”
Furthermore, it is presented as “an infrastructure boasting the design that clinched the 2019 National Innovation and Design Awards,” conceived by José Romo, the CEO of FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores, described as “one of the most internationally esteemed Spanish engineers,” who will be visiting the island next week for the installation of the segment.
