The Council of Tenerife to Introduce More Police to Address Issues with Tourism and Traffic

The Cabildo of Tenerife has informed that on Wednesday, the Mobility and Natural Environment counselors, Eulalia García and Blanca Pérez, respectively, held a meeting with the insular director of Natural Environment, Pedro Millán, and representatives from various law enforcement agencies, including the National Police, Civil Guard, Local Police, as well as councillors Gladis León from Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Norberto Padilla and Julián Rodríguez from Tegueste; Domingo Galván and Cristina Ledesma from La Laguna.

The purpose of the meeting was to coordinate “actions to enhance” mobility in the Anaga area.

Eulalia García stated that the Tenerife Cabildo is “intensively working” towards implementing the Mobility Plan for the Anaga Rural Park. She emphasized the need for “short-term and immediate measures” to address the mobility issues affecting the area’s residents. “Dissuasive measures need to be implemented, with the primary focus being on the operations of different security forces. Through their presence and traffic management, they can alleviate the congestion experienced on weekends and even during the week in the Cruz de Carmen area. The collaboration between all stakeholders and institutions is comprehensive, and I anticipate visible results in the upcoming weeks.”

Blanca Pérez described the meeting as “highly productive” as an agreement was reached to “implement an emergency plan to enhance mobility in Anaga.” “We have identified the critical areas where additional police presence is required; explored alternatives within the mobility plan, and discussed the potential engagement with active tourism and car rental companies to mitigate the impact on the region.” The councillor did not specify the nature of this engagement with companies or any measures beyond deploying additional agents from law enforcement to address the collapsing roads, parking areas, and viewpoints due to the rising number of vehicles, particularly large buses, in the area. The influx of vehicles often leads to traffic congestion in the Anaga Rural Park.
