An illegal hunter caught with a firearm in action in Radazul

Officers from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard apprehended an individual in the act of engaging in spearfishing with a gun at night along the Radazul coast of Tenerife.

The man was spotted by officers conducting coastal surveillance, participating in spearfishing with a gun and a torch. He was intercepted as he emerged from the water using the stairs at Radazul beach, with his catches secured with a rope.

Sources from the law enforcement agency noted how the offender swam on the surface and dived repeatedly near the shoreline, encroaching into the bathing area while utilizing an empty water bottle as a floatation device.

Following his identification and verification that he lacked the required documentation, his fishing equipment was confiscated, and the unlawfully captured fish and octopus were seized.

The individual was informed of various minor and serious violations in accordance with the regulations outlined in the Canary Islands Fishing Law and Regulations, which stipulate fines ranging from 60 to 60,000 Euros for such offenses. For offences deemed very serious, the fine can escalate to a maximum of 300,000 Euros.
