The recent ‘invasion’ of algae and the resulting damage caused by stormy rain, intense winds, and high waves have significantly impacted the primary bathing areas of La Laguna, leading to the temporary closure of access to the Bajamar pools and the natural pool at Punta del Hidalgo.
Officials from the Lagunero City Council have informed DIARIO DE AVISOS that staff from the Beach and Swimming Pool Service, along with Urbaser workers, are diligently working on repairing the extensive damage primarily caused by the harsh sea conditions. Their aim is to ensure that all coastal areas of La Laguna are safe for visitors to enjoy.
As per the reports, the Jover pool is currently in excellent condition for bathers to use, and one of the pools in Bajamar, the closest to the lighthouse, is already open to the public. Efforts are now concentrated on cleaning and repairing the second pool in Bajamar, which is still affected by algae due to the rough sea conditions. A similar situation is observed at ‘La Hoya’ in Punta del Hidalgo.
Challenging Tasks Ahead
The City Council notes that the ongoing tasks are complex, given the usual waves in these bathing areas that need to be considered. In addition to the algae issue, there are concerns about tile displacement, debris falling, and the damage to the playground in Bajamar – a facility that has already been repaired.
