The Council of Tenerife has actively promoted the formulation and endorsement of a Mobility Strategy within the Anaga Rural Park to cater to the requirements of the small villages in the massif, such as Taganana, Afur, or Taborno.
This action follows the continuous grievances from the residents of the settlements and towns in the Park about the complete disorder on the mountain road (TF-12) caused by the large influx of tourists and visitors.
As per the outcomes of the Strategy, the island authority will advocate evaluating the demand for urban and interurban Titsa bus routes operating in Anaga to facilitate the enhancement of frequencies, schedules, or routes to upgrade the current service.
Similarly, a request will be made to the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council to conduct a study for the implementation of on-demand public transport for the residents of the villages in Anaga, in collaboration with the Council.
An appeal will also be made to the Ministry of the Interior to augment the number of Civil Traffic Guard officers. Additionally, the Council will maintain efforts to foster cooperation with other public bodies to ensure the presence of the Canarian Police and the Local Police from the affected municipalities during periods of heightened visitor numbers.
Complete disorder
The chaos in Anaga was once again apparent during Holy Week. This past weekend, the road was gridlocked due to numerous improperly parked cars (mostly rented vehicles) in Cruz del Carmen. These vehicles obstructed the passage of Titsa buses, leading to queues lasting up to two hours.
“We are not witnessing any resolutions being provided for a persistent issue that we have been reporting for three years,” protested one of the impacted residents.
