SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 31st March (EUROPA PRESS) –
A 33-year-old individual was successfully rescued on Saturday following an accident involving falling rocks in a ravine situated in El Tablero area, between Santa Cruz de Tenerife and El Rosario municipalities, as communicated by the Coordinating Center of Emergencies and Security (Cecoes) 1-1-2.
The incident took place approximately at 3:30 p.m., when the 1-1-2 emergency services received a distress call stating that a climber needed urgent medical attention after being struck by rocks in the ravine at the aforementioned location. Subsequently, Cecoes promptly initiated the required emergency response.
Response teams from the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium, the rescue helicopter of the Emergency and Rescue Group of the Government of the Canary Islands (GES), two basic life support ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), officers from the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and El Rosario, and the Civil Guard were dispatched to the scene.
The SUC medical personnel provided initial aid to the injured individual on site. Upon realising that a ground rescue was not feasible under safe conditions, the firefighters requested the Coordination Center for an aerial rescue operation. Rescuers from the GES helicopter accessed the challenging area and, in collaboration with the firefighters, successfully rescued the climber, airlifted him onto the helicopter, and evacuated him to Tenerife North Airport.
An SUC ambulance was stationed at the airport to transfer the individual to Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital due to moderate chest trauma, but without any complications reported.
Local Police from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and El Rosario municipalities closely cooperated with other emergency services during the rescue effort, and the Civil Guard performed the necessary procedures.
