Chaos on the Arico Coast: Caravan Control Lost During Easter

The surge of caravans along the Arico coastline during Easter has caused unprecedented disorder, with spontaneous makeshift settlements creating congestion on the streets and disrupting the daily routines of locals. Arico Somos Todos has highlighted the concerns of citizens about this issue, emphasizing the lack of intervention from the Town Hall.

Residents are witnessing a “disorderly scene” where streets are obstructed by the high number of recreational vehicles, some encroaching on pavements and public areas. Particularly in areas like Abbots, real makeshift communities have emerged, causing inconvenience and even intimidation among locals.

The councillors of Arico Somos Todos are condemning the Town Council’s lack of action, highlighting that they have been alerting for months about the necessity to regulate these situations through updated local regulations. However, no effective steps have been taken so far.

While other municipalities in the southern part of the island have enforced rules to prevent such issues, Arico “seems to attract those looking to circumvent existing regulations.” Problems are being reported concerning parking control, waste disposal, and security in natural areas close to tourist attractions such as the old military barracks and the Punta de Abona.

The absence of appropriate signage and a clear municipal regulation worsen the situation, impacting both residents and other visitors who are unable to access their usual recreational spots. Additionally, managing the areas occupied by caravans becomes a challenge, with bins overflowing and excessive amounts of rubbish.

It is crucial for the Town Council to promptly implement specific measures to control the influx of caravans and ensure environmental protection and harmonious coexistence among citizens.
