The atmosphere of solemnity enveloped La Laguna yesterday on Holy Thursday, bringing forth tradition, faith, and emotion to the streets. This day marks the commencement of the Easter Triduum, recalling Jesus’s Last Supper with his disciples and the Church’s observance of Brotherly Love. Besides the customary processions, unaffected by the wind pre-alert, the faithful congregated to admire the revered Eucharistic monuments in the town’s churches.
The Easter Triduum was inaugurated with the Lord’s Supper Mass at the Cathedral, led by Bishop Bernardo Álvarez of the Nivariense Diocese. Following the homily, the bishop performed the foot-washing ritual with twelve diocesan representatives.
Subsequent to the Eucharistic rites, the Blessed Sacrament procession proceeded to the Monument. Later, the Holy Supper procession, featuring Jesus and the 12 apostles sculpted by Antonio de Orbarán in 1664, paraded through the streets, accompanied by the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament and the penitential group of the Holy Supper.
Simultaneously, the Holy Christ of Humility and Patience and Our Lady of Solitude processions commenced from the Santo Domingo parish, merging with the Holy Supper procession at Obispo Rey Redondo Street.
In addition to these processions, San Lázaro hosted the Christ of Calvary procession, and the Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Unión parish in La Cuesta hosted the Most Holy Crucified Christ procession.
Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz de Tenerife also witnessed the Holy Thursday fervour with visits to Eucharistic monuments and processions, including the ones featuring María Santísima de la Esperanza Macarena and Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo from La Concepción parish, as well as the Crucified Christ procession from the San Andrés Apostol parish.
