Prosecutors in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have called for a three and a half year prison sentence for a woman who tried to take a child she did not know, accusing her of the crime of unlawful detention.
The defendant was at a shop in the town of La Laguna, Tenerife, and allegedly seized the opportunity when the mother momentarily lost sight of the child to pick him up.
It is stated that the defendant fled to a nearby park, around 20 meters away from the store, where the mother managed to retrieve her child.
The trial is scheduled to begin next week at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
