SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Socialist Group at the Fuencaliente Local Council has brought to the attention of the Common Council the difficulties they are facing in accessing the required information, in their rightful opposition activities, “information which either never arrives or is incomplete, showing the lack of transparency and democratic values under which the Canarian Coalition governs the municipality.”
This was disclosed by the socialist councillors Celia Santos and Eleazar Cruz, who admit that they have been compelled to seek the protection of the Common Council due to what they perceive as a violation of their rights as legitimate representatives in the neighbourhood Corporation.
The Socialist Group had previously formally notified the Local Council twice, warning of the consequences for the mayor if the requested information was not provided to the opposition.
They also caution that they will appeal to all relevant authorities to acquire the information they require, in order to carry out the necessary oversight work that legitimately falls within their remit as an opposition group. “We will persist in our demands for the information to which we are entitled, and we will not tolerate any further violations of our rights,” they affirm.
In this regard, they assert that they are repeatedly faced with “a mayor who shows no respect for the opposition’s work, erects every possible obstacle to obstruct access to documentation, and conducts himself with undemocratic behaviour at the helm of the Local Council.”
“The lack of transparency on various critical issues for the municipality, which we have consistently raised in public, reflects the poor democratic standards that govern the Fuencaliente Local Council, as exemplified by the abandoned construction project, which was concealed from the public, as well as the formulation of the municipality’s General Urban Plan, which is also being progressed without consideration for the residents,” the councillors argue.
The PSOE of Fuencaliente highlights that the Mayor of Fuencaliente “governs without regard for his constituents, attempting to impose his agenda in place of dialogue and consensus with the citizens, pursuing an obscure policy that makes his underlying motives unclear.”
