SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife is expanding a direct subsidy line to 600,000 euros for organizations distributing essential products to cover inventory expenses.
Leading a work meeting on Wednesday at the Insular Volunteer Center, the Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero, explained the objective of this initiative and the process for entities to access the aid.
Fumero stated that the aim of this initiative is to “bolster the structure of entities directly distributing essential products to the vulnerable population, ensuring optimal functionality in distribution activities.”
This new aid programme is part of ‘Tenerife Isla Solidaria’ and involves 25 associated entities under the Social Action sector led by Sinpromi.
The Minister of Social Action emphasised that “these subsidies are the result of dialogue and collaboration with food distribution organizations and are aimed at addressing their communicated needs.”
Águeda Fumero also stressed “the importance of working as a network, fostering collaboration between the government and third sector entities, to accurately identify the needs of organizations distributing essential products to vulnerable populations, thus enabling a more effective public sector response.”
The aid will support the purchase of movable property by entities for their operational activities.
Regarding this urgent aid call, the Minister of Social Action explained that it fulfils the commitment of the Cabildo to food distribution organizations and will follow a direct granting procedure due to public, social, and humanitarian interests, aiming to process, resolve, and advance payments within the current year.
Fumero also acknowledged the “unique” role of organizations providing food and basic necessities, recognising the essential public service they offer.
He further stated that for the island government, “it is crucial to ensure a funding framework for these organizations, which play a vital role in Tenerife’s social policies.” Through this agreement, the government affirms its commitment to strengthening alliances with third sector organizations overall, especially those involved in social emergencies, setting the stage for a genuine revolution in social management.
