The weather forecast for the rest of Easter Week in Canary Islands mentions some instability: rain, strong winds and, consequently, intense waves.

The arrival of Storm Nelson to the Archipelago, descending from the Atlantic, brings a polar trough, with its corresponding cold front, which will have its main impact from this Thursday afternoon until midday on Good Friday.

Therefore, the Canary Islands will be on alert this Maundy Thursday and Good Friday due to the effects of Storm Nelson, which will bring strong wind gusts, rough sea conditions, and above all, rain, more abundant in the island of La Palma, according to information from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Alert for Strong Winds and Waves

[–>

This Thursday, fronts associated with Storm Nelson have triggered yellow alert (risk) for heavy showers in La Palma, more likely in the northern half by the end of the day, and for very strong westerly gusts in La Palma (80 km/h) and in El Hierro (70 km/h), affecting exposed peaks and east-facing midlands. There will also be occasionally very strong westerly winds in the peaks of Tenerife by the end of the day.

Furthermore, in the islands of La Palma and El Hierro there will be a yellow alert for combined northwesterly seas causing waves of 4 to 5 meters, and also in Tenerife for west or southwest winds of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7) on the north coast offshore.

[–>

For this Friday, there will be a yellow alert for heavy showers in La Palma and northeast El Hierro and Tenerife during dawn, and for very strong northwesterly gusts in the peaks of La Palma and northeast midlands of El Hierro. Strong local northwesterly winds are also expected in high areas of Tenerife.

[–>

Likewise, the yellow alert for adverse coastal phenomena is extended to the north of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and in the islands of La Palma and El Hierro, it will be upgraded to orange alert.
