VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 27th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
Alpidio Armas (PSOE), the president of the Cabildo of El Hierro, has voiced his support on Wednesday for the Canary Islands Government’s introduction of a 20 cents per litre fuel bonus in the ‘green islands’ starting next Monday. However, he has emphasised that it is a temporary measure that will only be in place until the end of this year.
Speaking to reporters, he mentioned that the high fuel prices in El Hierro, La Gomera, and La Palma have long been a concern for the three islands due to the price gap compared to the capital islands. He expressed a desire for “more determination” from the Canarian Government as they “do not ensure” the continuity of this initiative beyond 2025.
Armas noted that the price difference often exceeds 20 cents and while he welcomed the fulfilment of this measure after numerous announcements in recent months, he believes that a more “permanent solution” is necessary as the current bonus only addresses part of the issue.
