The ‘TLP Championship’ at TLP Tenerife will feature eSports tournaments and a K-Pop cover contest in this edition.

These events will kick off in May and culminate at TLP Tenerife 2024, scheduled from September 3 to 8 at the Fairgrounds of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

According to Juan José Martínez, Minister of Innovation, Research and Development, “Reviving an event like TLP Tenerife is crucial, along with the diverse range of activities it offers, such as the growing popularity of esport tournaments and K-POP in recent years.”

Martínez believes that “the Fairgrounds provides the ideal venue for hosting the finals, and I am confident that fans will appreciate it.”

Idaira Febles, the director of TLP Tenerife, stated that they aimed to give a “fresh perspective” to this edition and to encourage “communities to thrive, aiding them in further professionalising within their respective sectors.”

Aside from the competition, attendees not participating in the tournaments will have access to other activities as part of TLP Tenerife 2024.

Throughout the event week, diverse activities catering to a wide audience range from novices to seasoned veterans in the world of esports and K-Pop covers will be conducted. Details can be found on the event’s website (tlp-tenerife.com), with some requiring pre-registration.

The TLP Esports Championship targets both amateur and professional esports enthusiasts in the Canary Islands.

This new edition will feature three categories: League of Legends, EA Sports FC 24, and Tekken 8.

PRIZE POOL OF OVER 5,000 EUROS

Registration is currently open on the competition website (tlp-championship.com), with a total prize pool exceeding 5,000 euros up for grabs.

Julia Palenzuela, the deputy director of TLP Tenerife 2024, highlighted the current “scarce competitive events” in the islands, making this initiative crucial to re-establish the Canary Islands as a notable presence on the national competitive circuit.

Agoney Bernal, the esports area coordinator, mentioned, “In this trial run, we have focused on the three most prominent video games within the island’s competitive teams.”

Future editions aim to broaden the scope and introduce new categories featuring competitive video games like Valorant or Super Smash Bros Ultimate, among others, engaging with the active gaming communities.

Moreover, the renowned K-Pop cover contest at TLP Tenerife has undergone a complete format revamp to hunt for the top dancers across the archipelago.

“For the first time, registration is open to all without any limit on participation,” said Idaira Febles.

This time around, participants will undergo two stages – auditions and performances.

A prize pot of over 2,000 euros will be divided among the winners. In this revised format, participants must first dance to the same song for evaluation of their technique, followed by a group or solo performance assessment.

“We believe this is the most equitable approach to accommodate all participants,” added Iván Elías, the content coordinator.
