SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 March (EUROPA PRESS) –
Next Monday, the Canary Islands government confirmed the implementation of a fuel discount in the ‘green islands’ – El Hierro, La Gomera, and La Palma – resulting in a direct reduction of 20 cents per litre.
Notably, citizens will not need to take any action; they simply need to drive to the gas stations, and the discount will be automatically deducted from the final price during payment,” stated Matilde Asián, Minister of Treasury and Relations with the European Union.
This special discount is applicable to gasoline, diesel, and marine diesel for both land and maritime vehicles, excluding fuel for private recreational boating.
The discount cannot be combined with the partial refund of the autonomous community’s special tax on petroleum-derived fuels for farmers and transporters. Therefore, farmers and transporters must decide whether to utilise the 20-cent bonus or opt for a partial refund with each refuelling.
They will be provided with a QR code to present when choosing to avail of the discount.
Initially, this measure will be in effect until 31 December 2024.
However, if the average retail fuel price in the ‘green islands’ is 0.20 euros higher than the average retail price in the ‘non-green’ islands – Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Tenerife – the measure may be extended until the first six months of 2025.
