The cities of La Laguna and Santa Cruz are currently immersed in the festivities of Holy Week. Yesterday, they experienced a mix of emotions and deep devotion during the processions of Holy Monday following Palm Sunday.
In La Laguna, due to ongoing works at the Monastery of Santa Clara, the image of the Lord of the Garden and related events had to be relocated to the Cathedral. At 7:00 p.m., the Cathedral hosted a mass and the blessing of the habits for new members of the Franciscan Brotherhood of the Prayer in the Garden. The Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of Merciful Love and Servers of the Temple also commenced their procession from the cathedral.
Accompanied by their faithful followers, the processions began after 8:00 p.m. on a chilly night in La Laguna. The image of the Lord of the Garden, alongside the Venerable Third Franciscan Order and their brotherhood, led the way. The sacred image of the Holy Christ of Merciful Love followed suit with its own brotherhood. At Plaza del Adelantado, they encountered the image of Soledad de María Santísima, brought over from the Monastery of Santa Catalina, accompanied by the brotherhood of the Insignias of the Passion of the Lord and Soledad de María Santísima.
In Santa Cruz, the respective processions of the Lord of Humility from La Concepción parish and the Lord of Prayer in the Garden from the hermitage of the Venerable Third Order also took place.
Lord of Tribulations
Today is a significant day in the capital, with the procession of the Lord of Tribulations commencing at 8:15 p.m. from San Francisco de Asís parish. This procession aligns with the 130th anniversary of renaming East Street to the Lord of Tribulations Street in El Toscal.
Meanwhile, in La Laguna, the day will witness the solemn Chrism Mass presided over by the bishop, as well as the poignant Encuentro ceremony in La Cuesta, among other processions.
