SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Thursday and Good Friday, the port of Los Cristianos will be the hub for the second wave of departures to the ports of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Santa Cruz de La Palma, and La Estaca. The estimated boarding numbers stand at 19,800 passengers and 4,910 vehicles, as reported by the shipping companies operating in the port.
The initial phase of the post-Easter operation commenced from the afternoon of Friday, March 22 to Saturday, March 23, witnessing a movement of 7,500 passengers and 2,170 vehicles. According to the Port Authority, “these statistics clearly reflect the significant traffic surge that the port encounters during this holiday period.”
It is foreseen that around 3,800 passengers and 1,300 cargo vehicles will transit on round trips between the Islands during the period spanning the beginning of the first phase to the peak of Holy Week.
As for the return operation, a high level of capacity utilization is expected over the weekend and to a lesser extent on Monday, April 1. It is projected that approximately 27,000 passengers and 7,000 vehicles will journey by sea from La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro to the port of Los Cristianos.
The vessels currently in operation at the port of Los Cristianos include the “Benchijigua Express”, “Bencomo Express”, “Volcán de Teno”, “Volcán de Taburiente”, and the “Volcán de Tirajana”.
Traffic and safety protocols are being bolstered with the enforcement of control and security measures by the Port Police during Holy Week. The Arona Local Police will manage traffic flow at the exit roundabout of the Port of Los Cristianos during the departure and arrival processes of the shipping companies, in addition to overseeing the parking facilities on Avenida la Habana and El Espigón street.
