SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
Traffic to Teide National Park has been halted by Tenerife’s Cabildo this Sunday through La Esperanza (TF-24) and La Orotava (TF-21) due to icy spots on the roads.
The closure on TF-21 is in effect from PK 16 (Aguamansa) to PK 45 (Parador de las Cañadas del Teide), while on TF 24, it extends from PK 24 (Los Loros crossing) to the end.
The Island Corporation advises the public to refrain from unnecessary journeys, especially to the highland regions of the island, and to limit outdoor activities.
Additionally, Tenerife’s Cabildo proactively activated the Tenerife Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) on Friday, 22nd March, following a pre-alert declaration for rain, strong winds, snow in elevated areas, storms, and coastal events on the island’s northern coast. This was issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, in compliance with the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
On Saturday morning, the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands updated the alert situation for rainfall in high-altitude regions and the southern and east-southeast slopes of Tenerife. Therefore, the public is urged to take all necessary precautions.
