Villa Santa Brígida is pushing their last chances to enter the promotion playoff zone after a solid victory over Unión Puerto, who are at the bottom and are seeing their chances of staying in the league getting more complicated (3-0). After a goalless first half, though with Gran Canaria’s dominance, Santi Chicha’s goal ten minutes into the second half rewarded the efforts of the Satauteño team. Toni Romé’s own goal and Gabri’s subsequent goal completed the Gran Canarians’ victory.
The initial phase of the match unfolded with few noteworthy actions. Ayoze had the first clear chance for Villa after the first 20 minutes; his shot from outside the box narrowly missed the right post. Moments later, his teammate Leto posed a threat with a cross intercepted by the goalkeeper Álvaro.
Just past the half-hour mark, with Satauteño dominance, Jorge sent a through ball towards Santi Chicha’s run, who hit the post; two minutes later, the local forward missed again by shooting wide after a rebound from the visiting goalkeeper following Dani López’s initial attempt.
With no new clear chances, the first half ended. Villa’s coach, Ángel López, made some changes. Thanks to a triple substitution, he managed to push his team to another level. Although they could have taken the lead through a shot from the newly introduced Gabri that missed the target, the 1-0 came ten minutes into the second half as Santi Chicha scored from a free-kick deflected by the wall. Ten more minutes passed before the 2-0 arrived: a cross from Gabri from the byline was ultimately diverted by Toni Romé into his own goal.
In the 66th minute, Santi Chicha could have secured his brace in a new one-on-one, but the goalkeeper Álvaro intervened again to deny the goal.
But Villa Santa Brígida’s 3-0 lead arrived with about 20 minutes remaining in the match. In an attacking move, Pipo played a long ball for Gabri’s run, who found himself alone against the goalkeeper to score.
