The Tenerife Council has reopened access to the Teide National Park via La Esperanza (TF-24) and La Orotava (TF-21) after carrying out cleaning works on the roads affected by the presence of ice and snow. However, the island’s Corporation recommends that the population avoid unnecessary travel, especially to the summit areas of the island, as well as outdoor activities, and follow the self-protection instructions issued by the Civil Protection authorities.
The Tenerife Council activated yesterday (Friday 22) preventively the Island Emergency Plan due to the pre-alert declaration for rain, wind and snow in summit areas, storms, and coastal phenomena on the north coast of the island issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government, in application of the Specific Emergency Plan for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
This morning (Saturday 23), the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government has updated the situation to an alert for rain in the high areas and the south and east-southeast slope of Tenerife, so the population is asked to take extreme precautions.
