The La Laguna City Council, in partnership with the Autonomous Sports Organization, is currently in the process of establishing a municipal all-inclusive football academy. This initiative aims to create a sports space that fosters diversity integration within the municipality by providing opportunities for youths with varying abilities to actively engage in the programme.
Badel Albelo, the president of the Autonomous Sports Organization, emphasises that the groundwork is underway to launch this municipal academy next autumn. He states, “This will be an excellent avenue to introduce new resources to our community, aligning with our efforts at the La Laguna City Council to champion complete inclusivity and ensure equal prospects for all individuals.” According to the municipal councillor, sports “serve as a powerful medium for instilling values like teamwork, dedication, and discipline, while also promoting a healthy approach to utilising recreational spaces.”
The all-inclusive football academy in La Laguna aims to instil values of respect, companionship, and collaboration among participants, irrespective of their unique differences. This pioneering project is anticipated to enhance the creation of a more inclusive and accessible sports environment for all residents of La Laguna.
“The Autonomous Sports Organization remains committed to fostering integration, inclusivity, and advocating for all sports categories,” states Badel Albelo. He mentions ongoing collaborations with Adein Tenerife and the CB Canarias Basketball Foundation in wheelchair basketball, among other partnerships.
