SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA, 23rd March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of La Gomera has chosen to promote training initiatives to enhance the ability to respond to emergency situations on the island.
In a press release, the island’s Institution has elucidated that, in collaboration with the General Socio-Sanitary Services Foundation (SSG), it aims to focus on prevention, optimising the island’s emergency capacities.
President Casimiro Curbelo stressed the significance of implementing ongoing training “that will ultimately have a positive impact on the safety of individuals, the emergency teams working on the island, and the island’s environment itself.”
Accordingly, he mentioned that an extensive annual training plan will be devised in the upcoming months for emergency and social healthcare teams, targeting personnel from State security forces and bodies, Civil Protection, technical and advisory teams, volunteers, and Education professionals.
On the other hand, the insular Minister of Territorial Policy, Héctor Cabrera, outlined that the scheduled training “encompasses various areas of intervention concerning security and emergency actions”, including the usage and handling of the DESA defibrillator for basic life support, Municipal Emergency Plans, the Island Emergency Plan, and communication during emergency scenarios.
The Cabildo of La Gomera has allocated over 1.8 million euros in its 2024 budget, covering collaborations with emergency associations, the fire prevention campaign, and the provision of prevention and reinforcement during pre-alert periods for forest fires.
