SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 22nd March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The representative for Equality at the Provincial Council, Beatriz Barrera, has held discussions with a mother of a student from CPEIPS La Salle San Ildefonso in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The student was impacted by the dissemination of nudes created by peers using artificial intelligence. The mother has raised concerns that the necessary protocols to safeguard students were not promptly activated and is demanding further educational measures to address such incidents.
Expressing disappointment over the lack of communication from the school, the parent stated that the protocols were not implemented promptly as required for such a serious incident. “I formally requested the appointment of a student well-being coordinator, but received no response,” she revealed.
She is calling for educational actions aimed at raising awareness and preventing similar incidents to safeguard minors and put an end to such occurrences. The mother mentioned that she had to transfer her daughter to a different school due to harassment from other students, which she believed was a result of La Salle’s inadequate response.
The Equality representative of the Provincial Council promised to reach out to the relevant educational authorities “to ascertain the actions taken in response to the incidents and the subsequent measures implemented to prevent further harm to the affected student.” She emphasised the need for a preventative educational strategy to address the repercussions of the misuse of these new technological advancements.
