The President of the Tenerife Council, Rosa Dávila, has suggested removing the parking spaces on Espigón Street, in the direction leading away from the Los Cristianos Port during Easter week. This measure aims to free up two lanes for traffic on days that see some of the highest maritime traffic, passenger movement, and cargo activity in this area.
Rosa Dávila made this statement yesterday during a press conference called to report on the agreements of the island’s Government Council. She explained that this is one of the measures that can be implemented “immediately” to address the chaotic situation at Los Cristianos Port.
Transferring cargo traffic to the Granadilla Port is one of the measures under consideration.
Rosa Dávila mentioned a recent meeting between regional, island, municipal administrations, and the Port Authority where the Government of the Canary Islands and Ports of Tenerife agreed to implement a pilot project that will redirect cargo traffic from Los Cristianos Port to Granadilla Port.
One of the measures to ease congestion at the port,” discussed at the meeting, involves actions by the Port Authority for “immediate intervention in the port’s land area” and by the Government of the Canary Islands at the Los Cristianos exit. In addition, the President of the Council adds the commitment announced by the island’s Government to carry out road infrastructure works.
Chayofita
A total investment of 90 million Euros in projects to alleviate congestion in Los Cristianos includes the undergrounding of Chayofita Avenue, the construction of the Interchange, and the improvement of the entrance and exit road to the town, TF–655 towards the Southern Motorway.
“The aim is to use the existing infrastructure to accommodate some of the intense traffic at Los Cristianos Port,” defends the Council President when asked about the possibility of resuming the Fonsalía project.
