The Security department of the Granadilla de Abona City Council, in collaboration with officers from the Civil Guard and the Coastal Provincial Service, carried out the eviction of illegal settlements on the municipality’s coast on Thursday, 21st March.
The operation involved 25 officers, including Local Police and Civil Guard, who had identified up to 45 settlements in the La Mareta and Charco del Clérigo areas. The operation also included the presence of 35 workers from the municipal company Sermugran, who were tasked with removing belongings and other waste found in the area, requiring up to eight trucks due to the large amount of waste in this coastal stretch.
Councillor with Special Delegation in Security, Carmen Dolores Rodríguez, highlights that the operation “was carried out smoothly, thanks to the excellent work of the Local Police and Civil Guard, who acted in a coordinated manner, ensuring the success of the operation at all times.”
Furthermore, the official points out that on 13th March, the eviction order was served to the nearly 100 residents, mostly European nationals, residing in that coastal area, which facilitated the operation as the majority of caves were unoccupied at the time of the eviction.
The operation, which resulted in one arrest, proceeded smoothly and no presence of minors was detected.
