SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19th March (EUROPA PRESS) –

The upcoming 9th Gastronomic Fair of the Canary Islands-GastroCanarias 2024 will be held at the ‘Gran Nave’ of the Tenerife Fairgrounds from 21st to 23rd May. It is considered the most significant fair in the sector in the Archipelago and will feature 217 stand modules representing over 90 companies.

During her presentation, Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo, highlighted that Tenerife currently holds the title of being the gastronomy and culinary centre of the Canary Islands. The hosting of the 9th Gastronomic Fair of the Canary Islands at the Tenerife Fairgrounds further solidifies the island’s position not only in the local culinary scene but also on the national culinary map.

Rosa Dávila reflected on the historical significance of the Island Gastronomy Plan, unanimously approved by the Tenerife Cabildo in May 2000, marking it as the first of its kind in Spain. She emphasized the Cabildo’s longstanding support towards gastronomy, shaping it into a mature sector with remarkable potential.

Vice president and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso, remarked on the event’s success in uniting the entire gastronomy sector in the Canary Islands. He noted how it serves as a platform for professionals and companies to showcase their skills not only nationally but also internationally, amplifying the reach of Canarian gastronomy.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, expressed his pride in hosting the well-established event once again. He mentioned the event’s popularity among professionals and the general public, emphasizing the showcasing of the finest Canarian gastronomy and ranking it among the top three gastronomic fairs in Spain.

Government of the Canary Islands’ Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, highlighted how events like this elevate the gastronomic status of the Canary Islands, placing it on par with culinary destinations worldwide. He credited collective efforts for the significant progress made in recent years.

Oswaldo Betancort, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, underlined La Graciosa’s important contribution to the Canary Islands’ economy and its rich gastronomic culture rooted in salt production and fishing. He stressed the need to promote the agricultural and livestock sectors of La Graciosa.

This year, La Graciosa will be the ‘Guest Island’ at the 9th Gastronomic Fair of the Canary Islands-GastroCanarias 2024. The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa will occupy a prominent space within the central stand of the Gran Nave, highlighting the island’s offerings. La Graciosa’s products, recipes, culinary delights, and professionals will take the spotlight in the opening cooking show on the event’s first day.

The regional focus of the event, a tradition since its inception in 2014, will be maintained this year. The official presence of all seven island councils of the Archipelago will be seen through their institutional stands, with the Cabildo de Tenerife standing out in size. Additionally, the Government of the Canary Islands, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, and municipalities such as Los Realejos, La Orotava, and Santiago del Teide will showcase their offerings through dedicated stands.

Spanning approximately 17,000 square meters, the 9th Canary Islands Gastronomic Fair will feature over 200 stand modules hosting more than 90 leading companies from the Canary Islands, mainland Spain, and beyond. The event will also include two large stages, sponsored by the Cabildo of Tenerife and Incabe/Heineken, ensuring an engaging showcase for all attendees.
