Coalition of the Canary Islands suggests building a service road between San Isidro and Las Chafiras running parallel to the TF-1 motorway, as well as upgrading the municipal road of Rapasaya. Their spokesperson, José Domingo Regalado, presented this initiative to the Mobility Councillor of the Cabildo, Eulalia García. Furthermore, the nationalist councillor calls for improvements to the island roads TF-635 and 645, which connect Atogo and Las Chafiras.
Regalado explains that the Sustainable Mobility Plan of Tenerife states that Granadilla de Abona, Adeje, Arona, and San Miguel de Abona experience high traffic. They account for 240,000 inhabitants, which represent 26% of Tenerife’s population, and 23% of employment on the island. “This region handles 763,900 daily trips, of which 673,632 are internal journeys. Within this system, the Abona macro-zone (Arona, San Miguel, and Granadilla) reaches 374,700 internal trips each day.”
The measures aim to enhance mobility in this area, as proposed by Regalado after meeting with Eulalia García
The data leads José Domingo Regalado to believe that there is a need to “improve public transport and the network of communication routes”. Within this context, he advocates for the road parallel to the TF-1 motorway between Atogo and Las Chafiras, owned jointly by the City Council and the Cabildo, to be transformed into a service route.
The nationalist councillor acknowledges that the road “currently has several deficiencies due to lack of maintenance and signage.” Its improvement “could relieve traffic congestion in general, and especially facilitate faster connections for public transport between both areas.” José Domingo Regalado goes a step further and proposes the development of “a project that would consider the connection from the Los Cardones junction to Las Chafiras,” explains Regalado in his proposal.
Enhancing Public Transport
Given this data, the Coalition of the Canary Islands presents a proposal to the Granadilla de Abona City Council, “the rehabilitation of the municipal road,” and requests the Cabildo de Tenerife to “improve the island road, while also considering the construction of a service road linking the municipalities of San Miguel de Abona and Granadilla de Abona with a road running parallel to the Southern motorway that could enhance public transport connections in the area,” Regalado concludes.
