SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The historic centre of La Laguna was bathed in purple and solidarity this Saturday for the inaugural I Race for ALS, an event that surpassed all expectations in its first edition, with all 1,000 bibs allocated.
The main aim of the race was to raise funds for TeidELA, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness about ALS and promoting research to combat it. This initiative was conceived by the Board of Brotherhoods and Fraternities of La Laguna with the backing of the Autonomous Sports Organisation of La Laguna.
The march kicked off at 10:00 a.m. from Plaza de El Cristo, winding through the main streets of La Laguna’s historic centre before returning to the starting point, creating an atmosphere of support and advocacy, drawing attention to those affected by the disease and their families.
Badel Albelo, President of the Autonomous Sports Organisation, expressed gratitude towards the residents of La Laguna for their enthusiastic participation in an event that “is groundbreaking for our city and is sure to become a permanent fixture in our calendar.” The mayor added, “This race underscores our community’s strong dedication to charitable causes supported by this organisation.”
Early in the day, Plaza del Cristo transformed into a hub of family fun, offering activities for all ages, children’s entertainment, warm-up sessions, Zumba, a photo booth, and outdoor fitness classes.
