The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Official College of Psychology, through its Emergency and Disaster Intervention Group (GIPEC), announced on Friday that it is providing free psychological assistance to the 90 families, comprising over 210 individuals who were evicted from the Chasna building in Arona, located in the southern part of the island.
In response, several members of the Emergency and Disaster Intervention group from the Official College of Santa Cruz de Tenerife travelled to offer support and psychological care to all affected individuals, as outlined by the College.
The intervention involved accompanying those affected, addressing cases of anxiety and anger outbursts, and mediating in negotiations between the affected individuals and the authorities.
Cristina García, in charge of GIPEC, highlighted the goal of reducing anxiety levels, aggression, and anger that surfaced during the eviction, while also supporting and facilitating dialogue between those affected and Arona City Council.
García mentioned the cooperation between authorities and affected individuals, applauding the absence of children during the proceedings after advising families to maintain their routines and ensure children attend school.
“Immediate accommodation was arranged for families with children, the elderly, or those with disabilities, which aided in alleviating nervousness, fear, and uncertainty,” she emphasised.
Since the beginning of 2024, the Emergency and Disaster Intervention Group of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Official College of Psychology has conducted nine emergency interventions, averaging almost one per week.
