SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
Following a meeting in Florence to set the strategic direction for the upcoming European Elections campaign, the Assembly of the European Democratic Party (PDE) has named Fernando Clavijo as its vice president.
Chaired by Sandro Gozi (Italian Democratic Party) and Andoni Ortúzar, the leader of the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), the assembly proposed the appointment of Fernando Clavijo, president of the Canary Islands and a member of the Committee of European Regions, as the new vice president of the European Democratic Party based in Brussels.
The appointment was made unanimously, reflecting the support of representatives from more than 17 different European nationalities, as reported by CC.
This decision further solidifies the European Democratic Party’s dedication to the Canary Islands and recognizes the significant role played by Fernando Clavijo in heading the Executive of the Canary Islands. Recently, he has initiated efforts towards international cooperation on migration issues and put forth various proposals to defend the Canary Islands archipelago as an outermost region of the European Union (RUP).
With this appointment, Clavijo becomes part of the decision-making body of the PDE along with MEPs like Nicola Danti from Italy and Ülrike Muller from Germany, geared towards addressing the current and future challenges of Europe.
UPCOMING EUROPEAN ELECTIONS
CC has already announced its campaign committee for the European elections, with parliamentary spokesperson José Miguel Barragán as the general coordinator, and David Toledo, the president of the parliamentary group, as the general coordinator in the islands. These positions were confirmed by the National Political Council on 9th March.
According to Toledo, “The collaboration with PNV – that is jointly participating with CC in the elections – enables us to unite our efforts to ensure that the Canary Islands continue to have a strong voice.”
