Fred. Olsen Express anticipates that this Easter more than 140,000 individuals will be journeying on its routes, and in total, it will be conducting 620 trips during this period. These trip figures are similar to those of 2023, with an increase of 12 additional journeys on the route linking Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

Additionally, the shipping company expects to cater to 35,000 vehicles during this period. To meet the demand, the number of vehicle spaces, which dictates passenger occupancy on the vessels, is increased by 26% compared to the capacity of a normal week. Group trips, with family or friends, stand out, with an average of 4 passengers per vehicle.

Fred. Olsen Express’s Fleet Director, Juan Ignacio Liaño, states that “these figures serve as a boost for us to continue investing in improving our services. Once again, we see how travellers trust us as a means of transportation for their holidays. A trust that we believe is due to our punctuality, the flexible options we provide, the convenience of travelling without luggage limits and, for those who wish, with their own vehicle, in addition to always adapting to market demand.”

He adds, “we continue to work to ensure the best travel experience for our customers, even during peak periods. That is why we have recently announced the purchase of two new RoRo cargo ships, which will allow us to offer more capacity for specific freight transport, while freeing up space in the holds of inter-island routes to accommodate a larger number of passenger vehicles.”

Passengers’ favourite routes for Easter

With the good weather forecasts for these dates, popular connections include the Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura route, which will be used by over 28,000 passengers and 9,000 vehicles between the 22nd and 31st of March, to enjoy leisure and beach activities. Furthermore, those seeking tranquillity or nature-based plans opt to travel with Fred. Olsen Express between Tenerife and La Gomera, where over 33,000 travellers with 7,000 vehicles are expected to be served.

Connection with the Peninsula

On the other hand, the route connecting Huelva with the capital islands, operated jointly with Baleària, maintains the 3 weekly trips that have been in place since January. Therefore, it will have 9 journeys during the Easter period, thus offering a 30% increase compared to the 2023 trips. This increase is reflected in the passenger and vehicle forecasts, with approximately 1500 passengers and 600 vehicles expected, surpassing by over 25% the numbers from the previous year.

About Fred. Olsen Express

[–>

Fred. Olsen Express celebrates 50 years of sea connectivity in the Canary Islands. The shipping company commenced its journey in 1974 with the initial Gomera Ferry operating between San Sebastián de La Gomera and Los Cristianos, Tenerife. Since then, it has remained committed to advancing maritime transport in the archipelago, utilizing state-of-the-art vessels to deliver services focused on comfort, speed, and flexibility.

True to its mission of fostering prosperity within the Canarian community, the shipping company boasts a workforce of nearly 1,000 individuals. Currently, it operates via five maritime routes. Since 2018, it has also linked the archipelago with the Iberian Peninsula through the Gran Canaria and Tenerife connection with Huelva.

Fred. Olsen Express leads the inter-island market, conducting an average of 22,000 trips annually and transporting over 3.5 million individuals each year, along with more than 63,000 pets, around a million cars, and approximately 1,300,000 square meters of cargo, equating to about 100,000 freight vehicles. Since its inception, over 85 million passengers have placed their trust in the company.

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Canarian Sustainable Development 2030 agenda, through its ‘Harmony with the Sea’ programme, Fred. Olsen Express applies innovation across all its processes to minimize its impact on the environment.
