Rural Getaway has announced the name of the ten finalist municipalities of the eighth edition of Capital of Rural Tourism, whose winner will be announced on April 18as reported by the platform in a statement.
Specifically, the list of finalists is made up Altura (Castellón), Artajona (Navarra); Brihuega (Guadalajara), Cabezuela del Valle (Cáceres), Cómpeta (Málaga), Enciso (La Rioja), Peñafiel (Valladolid), Sant Hilari Sacalm (Girona), Santa Eulalia de Oscos (Asturias) and Vilaflor de Chasna (Tenerife).
Voting
With this announcement the voting period opens in which The travelers themselves are in charge of voting for their favorite rural destination among the 10 finalists until April 15.
As a novelty for this edition, EscapadaRural has teamed up with BlaBlaCar, since “car dependence in rural Spain and in small municipalities is very important.” In this sense, the platform has connected 6,956 Spanish municipalities of the 8,131 that exist during 2023, that is, it has offered mobility solutions to 86% of the municipalities in Spain.
After seven editions, it has become clear that the initiative meets its objective of helping many municipalities to increase their visibility and position themselves as a relevant rural destination thus contributing to local developmentaccording to the municipalities that to date have been winners and finalists of the contest.
The seven municipalities that hold the title of Capital of Rural Tourism are: Campo Lameiro (Pontevedra, 2023), Cazorla (Jaén, 2022), Olvera (Cádiz, 2021), Potes (Cantabria, 2020), Santillana del Mar (Cantabria, 2019 ); Aínsa-Sobrarbe (Huesca, 2018) and Sigüenza (Guadalajara, 2017).
