SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
An edifice located on San Bartolomé Street, within the San Matías district, experienced a partial breakdown of its structure on Tuesday afternoon.
Various units of the La Laguna Local Police, the Municipal Urban Planning Management, the Tenerife Fire Consortium, and a team from the Canary Islands Emergency Service as a precautionary measure, hurried to the scene of this building, seemingly intended for industrial purposes.
Adolfo Cordobés, the territorial planning councillor of La Laguna and head of the Urban Planning Management, announced from the site of the collapse that “a sufficiently large perimeter has been cordoned off to ensure people’s safety.”
He also stated that “witnesses have claimed that there was no one inside the building at the time of the incident, although steps are being taken to verify this information.”
In this context, the councillor elaborated that the Civil Protection team, along with a team of rescue dogs, has been deployed to the operation to confirm that no individuals have been impacted by this event, as per a statement from the City Council.
“Owners and residents of nearby properties have voluntarily evacuated and have confirmed that they do not require alternative housing from the City Council, which has been offered to them,” Cordobés stated.
The councillor revealed that personnel from the Urban Planning Management have already conducted an inspection of the building’s interior and that the damaged power lines are currently being replaced.
A report will be prepared by the City Council to determine the exact causes of this building collapse and to ensure that the adjacent property is structurally intact.
To achieve this, the debris must be cleared, and the stability of the structure must be confirmed.
