The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Poli Suárez, has initiated the process for the development of a new Compulsory Education Centre (CEO) in San Isidro, located in the picturesque town of Granadilla de Abona in Tenerife.
This new establishment aims to alleviate the growing student population pressure on other schools in the area. It will boast twenty-one classrooms, various multipurpose rooms, an Enclave Classroom, and dedicated spaces for students with specific educational support needs (NEAE). Additionally, there will be a music room, laboratories, library, gym, changing rooms, cafeteria, and outdoor garden areas. The project aligns with the technical requirements set by the General Directorate of Infrastructure and Equipment overseen by Iván Gonzalez.
The contractual agreement for the drafting of this project is open for submissions until March 18 on the public sector tendering platform. The estimated cost for this project is set at 176,000 Euros, with a completion timeline of five months post the tender award.
This new educational facility signifies a significant advancement for southern Tenerife, enhancing educational resources and helping reduce class sizes at various schools in the region, including secondary education institutes such as IES Magallanes and Cardones, and the primary education centres like Isaac de Vega and La Jurada.
Development Plan
The establishment of the new CEO is part of a broader infrastructural initiative led by the Government of the Canary Islands in collaboration with local councils in the area. Recent announcements were made following a meeting with mayors by the regional councillor, Poli Suárez.
Currently, there are four upcoming facilities in different stages of development: CEO San Isidro, Abades (Arico), Las Chafiras Secondary Education Institute (IES) (San Miguel de Abona), and the Integrated Vocational Training Centre (CIFP) in Adeje.
Additionally, expansion projects are planned for CEOs Andrés Orozco (Arafo) and Guajara (Fasnia), along with IES Magallanes and El Médano (both in Granadilla de Abona), Ichasagua and Los Cristianos (Arona), Serafín Pardo (Santiago del Teide), Abona Early Childhood and Primary Education Centre (CEIP) (Granadilla de Abona), and Arona Secondary Education Institute Section (SIES) (Arona).
Furthermore, various councils have offered land or spaces to facilitate the establishment of new schools or the expansion of existing facilities in the region.
Moreover, plans include fifty diverse actions in centres throughout the region, alongside the initiation of procedures for installing photovoltaic panels in seven schools in Arona, Granadilla, Adeje, Santiago del Teide, and Güímar. These efforts aim to create more sustainable environments to combat high temperatures, further supported by the installation of shades, roofs, and the naturalisation of spaces.
