The airports in Canarias closed the month of February as their best ever, with 4,405,168 passengers, surpassing by 13.7% the data from the same month in 2023, according to Aena. It’s worth noting that this February had one extra day due to being a leap year in 2024.
Out of the total number of passengers recorded last month, 4,357,793 were due to commercial flights, with 2,833,188 travelling internationally, marking a 15.6% increase from the previous year, and 1,524,605 on domestic flights, a 11.9% rise.
Additionally, there were 37,644 aircraft movements, an 11.5% increase from February 2023, and 2,640 tonnes of cargo transported, representing a 12.2% rise compared to the previous year.
Airport Traffic Gran Canaria Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in the second month of the year with 1,322,916, representing a 13.8% increase compared to February 2023.
Next is Tenerife Sur Airport which, with 1,218,089 passengers, saw a 15.4% increase compared to 2023; César Manrique-Lanzarote, with 700,157 (+12.5%); Fuerteventura, with 524,630 (+10%); Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 489,655 (+14.4%); La Palma, with 118,712 (+15.6%); El Hierro, with 22,556 (+18.2%) and La Gomera, with 8,453 passengers and the highest percentage growth compared to 2023, with an increase of +24.7%.

So far this year, the Canary Island airports have registered 8,698,875 passengers, exceeding by 11% the accumulated data from January to February in 2023.
Out of the 8,613,604 commercial passengers, 5,592,011 travelled on international flights, a 12.7% increase compared to the accumulated total of 2023, and 3,021,593 flew on domestic flights, a 9.1% rise.
