Ascending on the Ramón y Cajal street and intersecting with Plaza de los Patos, 25 de Julio Avenue has been identified as one of the riskiest areas for pedestrians in Santa Cruz of Tenerife, with a high number of reported incidents of pedestrians being involved in accidents at zebra crossings. The Security Councilor, Gladis de Leon, shared this information during the latest municipal oversight committee session, in response to a query from the Vox group regarding pedestrian accident hotspots in the city.

In the past year, a total of 46 incidents occurred at pedestrian crossings in the city, resulting in one fatality, eleven severe injuries, and over 30 minor injuries. There was also an increase in accidents on Ramón y Cajal street, with two additional cases of minor injuries, and on Veinticinco de Julio Avenue, with four incidents resulting in three minor injuries and one serious injury.
Approximately 20 hazardous spots for pedestrians have been identified in other areas such as La Salle, Galcerán, San Sebastián, Príncipes de España, Tomé Cano, Miraflores, or Rambla de Añaza among other thoroughfares.

In accordance with the new municipal Mobility ordinance, crossing roads outside designated pedestrian crossings is considered a serious violation and is punishable by fines starting from 80 Euros, as outlined in the Road Traffic Regulations.
