The Labour Party in La Orotava is proposing additional measures to help gather as many flowers as possible in preparation for the upcoming Corpus Christi celebration, taking into consideration the current shortage of flowers.
Samuel Mesa, the socialist representative, presented this idea to the Joint Festival Committee and the relevant municipal authority: “In addition to planting and harvesting flowers in our municipal gardens, which should be intensified, the Labour Party suggests implementing a flower donation campaign for individuals and organisations willing to contribute to enhancing our floral carpets.”
The objective of this proposal is to establish a central collection point in the municipality during the three days of the flower arrangement activity. “We believe that with an extensive municipal campaign, promoted through the media, many residents and organisations could be motivated to donate flowers that they have cultivated in their homes, gardens, or farms, or even donate a bouquet purchased from a local store, thereby indirectly supporting local businesses.”
Furthermore, the Joint Committee was briefed on the guidelines for the Poster Contest for our Festivities and the criteria for selecting the Queen of the Corpus Christi Celebrations.
Regarding the latter, the Labour Party has requested a review to potentially expand the age limit for candidates (currently restricted to under 25 years old), aligning it with the criteria set for other regional contests.
