SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11th March (EUROPA PRESS) –

Renowned photographer and artist Carlos González presents his latest exhibition, ‘Visions of Women in Asia’, at the Parliament of the Canary Islands until 21st March. This collection, the second project by the Canarian artist, consists of 20 captivating canvases and tablets inspired by the women of Asia.

At the inauguration of the exhibition, the first vice-president of the Chamber, Ana Oramas, reflected on González’s transition from a press photographer of over 35 years to a painter, capturing the essence of women through his art. She mentioned the diverse women portrayed in the exhibition, like So Yong finding solace after a lost love, Yun Yun sacrificing her youth to care for her father, and the courageous Ya Yong defending her family in times of war.

Ana Oramas emphasised that these serene, resolute, and poignant looks are a manifestation of González’s passion for history books and Korean cinema.

She highlighted, “These women lingered in his mind and with meticulous dedication and a touch of imagination, they are now immortalised in this splendid exhibition.”

Referring to the meticulous work of González, she added, “Each artwork contains a bit of Carlos, reflecting his self-taught and methodical approach, as seen in his extensive collection of photographs that have documented the visual history of the Canary Islands for 28 years.”

Carlos González shared that this exhibition is the fruit of “a year-long dedication to portraying real and fictional characters, each accompanied by their unique stories.” He narrated tales like that of a 19th-century Korean queen advocating for equality, which ultimately cost her life, or another queen deposed from her throne for her inability to bear children.

‘Visions of Women in Asia’ is open for viewing at the Exhibition Hall of the Canary Islands Parliament from 11th to 21st March, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Admission details can be obtained from the Chamber.
