The Tenerife B, the leader of the Canary group of Tercera RFEF with a four-point lead over Unión Sur Yaiza, was unable to get past a draw at home against Villa de Santa Brígida (1-1). Ethyan, in the 17th minute, quickly equalised for the white and blue team after the goal scored by Aridai for the Santa Brígida team just two minutes earlier. After a first half that passed without a clear dominator, in the second half, the Tenerife B subsidiary took a step forward and had opportunities to turn the result around, but the Gran Canaria team stood strong in defence and the comeback goal never arrived.
The match started with an opportunity from the visitor Aridai, who tried to surprise the local goalkeeper from the kick-off. Gabri responded with a timid shot from the edge of the box that the Jonay handled easily.
After fifteen minutes, Aridai broke the deadlock on the scoreboard. The Villa Santa Brígida forward received a through pass and shot low to put the ball into the net. Despite the visitor’s goal, Tenerife B did not give up and just two minutes later, Jesús delivered a precise cross from the right for Ethyan to head in the equaliser to make it 1-1.
With the score level, both teams tried to push forward more in attack, but without clear opportunities on either side of the pitch, except for a left-footed shot by Dylan from the edge of the area that just missed the post of Jonay’s goal.
At half-time, the Tenerife coach Leandro Cabrera made changes in search of more bite. Right at the start of the second half, his team had chances to take the lead. Jesús, from a short corner, crossed to the back post where Raúl was there to head slightly high.
Local Pressure
As the minutes passed, the reserve team continued to show superiority and create numerous opportunities, but they kept running into a very solid Villa Santa Brígida defence that thwarted every local attempt.
In the 75th minute, Ethyan was close to scoring his second goal when he headed a cross from the left unmarked at the edge of the six-yard box, but the goal did not come thanks to the fantastic stretch by Jonay, who then reappeared moments later to once again save the Santa Brígida team in a one-on-one against Adrián, just managing to deflect the ball for a corner.
In the final stretch, the Tenerife team threw themselves into attack with more heart than head, desperately seeking a goal that would give them the three points. However, the effort did not yield the desired reward even though Salifo had the chance to score in the last action of the match, but his header went straight into Jonay’s hands.
