Successful Rescue Operation: Three Sailors Saved from Sinking Boat near Tenerife


The three crew members of a sailboat, who were in distress as their vessel was sinking approximately 55 miles off the coast of Tenerife, were rescued by Maritime Search and Rescue on Tuesday night as disclosed by the maritime authority on Wednesday.

Sources from Maritime Search and Rescue reported that they received an emergency call from the crew of the sailboat Christine at 10:01 p.m., providing their coordinates in the vicinity of Tenerife.

The Helimer 206 helicopter and the Salvamar Alpheratz swiftly responded to the distress call, and three nearby vessels, OOCL Spain, Aidamar, and Yuan bei Hai, were also alerted to assist in the rescue operation.

Using the helicopter, all three crew members were successfully airlifted to safety by 11:48 p.m., without any need for medical attention, and then transported to Tenerife South airport. The sailboat was unfortunately left adrift.
