SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 7th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
To commemorate the 200 years since its establishment, the National Police is organising the inaugural charity race “Bicentennial National Police – Route 091” on 21st April in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, covering the main streets of the city.
This race aims to support the Aldis Foundation, a charity that assists children and young people with diverse functional abilities to enhance their quality of life and that of their families.
The foundation provides care to minors and youths with a range of disorders affecting their sensory, cognitive, and metabolic systems, such as Generalised Developmental Disorder (PDD), attention deficit disorder (ADD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dyslexia, and other rare diseases.
Its primary goal is to nurture their capabilities and provide the necessary resources to facilitate significant progress in their holistic development, according to a statement from the National Police.
The race route has been selected to be inclusive for all participants, encouraging citizens of all abilities to join either by running or walking.
For those unable to participate physically, there is an option to support the cause by purchasing ‘zero bibs’.
The event will feature two main categories: children and adult races, both starting from the Puerto Ciudad esplanade, in front of Plaza de España.
Children aged between 0 and 13 are eligible to register, with a limit of 500 participants.
The children’s race will consist of three age groups and respective distances: 100 meters for 0-5 year-olds, 400 meters for 6-10 year-olds, and 1,091 meters for 11-13 year-olds.
The race is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 am and will run for 30 minutes.
As for the adult male and female categories, individuals aged 14 and above can register, with a maximum of 1,000 participants.
FIVE KILOMETRES
Starting at 12:00 p.m., the total distance will be 5,091 meters, with a maximum duration of 50 minutes.
At the Puerto Ciudad esplanade, various supporting organisations and sponsors of Route 091 will set up stalls and promotional arches to showcase their products and services.
Moreover, the different units of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Provincial Police Station will host a display and exhibit of police equipment and vehicles.
Registrations for both the adult and children’s categories will open today on the official website https://ruta091.es, with 1,000 spots available for adults and 500 for children.
Registration will remain open from 7th March to 9th April.
Participants can collect their race numbers at the Nivaria Shopping Center between 19th and 20th April.
Each registration costs 12 Euros, which will be directed towards supporting the ALDIS foundation and covering expenses such as civil liability and accident insurance for participants, bibs, chips, race numbers, and commemorative t-shirts.
The security of the event will be managed by various units of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Provincial Citizen Security Brigade, alongside the Local Police and the X Police Intervention Unit, with special units from the Canary Islands Police Headquarters including GOES, aerial units, dog handlers, and the underground unit providing displays and exhibits.
