The Feminist Platform 8M announced on Monday, March 4, the route of the traditional demonstration in Tenerife on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The mobilization will start on Friday, March 8, at 7:00 pm. It will cover a route from Avenida 25 de Julio to Plaza Candelaria, passing through Méndez Núñez, El Pilar, and Villalba Hervás.
This year, under the cry: “Against oppressions, genocides, and patriarchal violence, women’s uprising!”, the streets of the Tenerife capital will turn purple to condemn all forms of violence that transcend physical and symbolic boundaries from a global perspective. In particular, the focus is on “the genocide of the Palestinian people” and the resulting gender gap in pensions, stemming from women’s employment history and its quality, with interruptions throughout their career.
The glass ceiling remains a reality in today’s society; therefore, platform representatives criticise that women not only cluster in lower-paid sectors but also face more difficulties in accessing significant positions. They also highlight migration issues, especially in the Archipelago. They assert that it will be necessary to “eradicate” the current Immigration Law to prevent distinctions between those with rights and those without.
Protocols Against Violence in Classrooms

Machista violence and cis-heteropatriarchal culture will also be objects of criticism during the mobilization for “humiliating, disparaging, and objectifying” women, especially those belonging to more vulnerable groups.
The requests focus on calling for protocols against all forms of violence in the educational environment. They advocate for affective-sexual education and co-education in all social spheres, emphasizing classrooms, to create a feminist and intersectional awareness based on pleasure, communication, and equality.
