SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 5th March (EUROPA PRESS) – The Tactical Group formed by personnel from the ‘Canarias XVI’ Brigade is currently undertaking patrols for presence, surveillance, and deterrence across all the Canary Islands. Their primary objective is to ensure the security of national terrestrial areas and respond promptly to any incidents, preemptively detecting any potential crisis development. In this scenario, they are operating under the Land Operational Command – under the operational oversight of the Operations Command.
These activities are part of the Presence, Surveillance, and Deterrence Operations, which represent a significant contribution by the Armed Forces to national security, particularly during peacetime. They serve as a fundamental element of the country’s deterrence strategy, underscoring the crucial role of the Armed Forces as an essential component of the State for ensuring security.
Within the framework of these operations, the ‘Canary Islands’ Brigade conducts presence missions across the entire Canary archipelago, enhancing their knowledge of the various communities and municipalities on all the islands. Concurrently, military units aim to integrate seamlessly and engage extensively with the Canarian civilian population during these missions, bolstering the public image of the Armed Forces as a State instrument that consistently works towards citizen safety and protection.
LAND OPERATIONAL COMMAND (MOT)
The Land Operational Command (MOT) is the operational component of the FAS tasked with planning, executing, and overseeing the aforementioned land-based operations.
Lieutenant General Julio Salom Herrera, the Commander of the Canary Islands Command of the Army, leads the Land Operational Command (CMOT), responsible for planning presence and surveillance initiatives in the Canary Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla. Continuous coordination with civil and military authorities and organisations is maintained.
Presence, Surveillance, and Deterrence Operations are a potent mechanism for upholding sovereignty surveillance, allowing early threat detection and enabling a swift and feasible response to potential crises.
The Permanent Command structure encompasses the Land Operational Commands (MOT), Maritime (MOM), Air (MOA), Cyberspace (MOC), and Space (MOESPA). Approximately 3,000 Armed Forces personnel are engaged daily in such operations, operating under the operational directive of the Operations Command.
