February’s tourist occupancy in Puerto de la Cruz reached 93.75%. The Tourism Councillor, Roberto Medina, describes this as a “record figure,” surpassing last year’s data for the same month by over 8%. This announcement was made by the councillor from Puerto de la Cruz attending the International Tourism Fair in Berlin (ITB), held in the German capital.
The fair commenced yesterday at the ITB with the aim of maintaining these figures throughout the current year, “consolidating the commitment to a vibrant city, highlighting the numerous experiences available in a pioneering destination that reinvents itself to continue attracting visitors and investment, generating employment and wealth from the leading tourist city in Canary Islands,” explained Councillor Roberto Medina.
According to the survey data provided by 36 hotels in Puerto de la Cruz, the sector in the municipality “continues on a highly positive path, with winter tourism campaigns consistently above 80% since the beginning of this period.”
The city has maintained occupancy rates above 80% throughout the winter campaign
These figures reaffirm the statement made by the mayor of the municipality, Marco González, who expressed that “Puerto de la Cruz is experiencing an outstanding moment in hotel occupancy and in its capacity to attract investment for the complete renovation of its accommodation facilities”. This profile “should serve as a stimulus to continue working on improving the destination’s positioning.”
Redefining the Strategy
The figures are recorded as the Puerto de la Cruz City Council announces a redesign of its tourism promotion strategy. The municipal government continues to work on updating the destination’s planning to approach the coming years with a defined organization including new promotional strategies, a Marketing Plan, and a new brand more aligned with the characteristics and local tourism product.
Marco González explains that this initiative aims to “provide opportunities to the sector to continue progressing in a city better prepared to welcome our visitors.” Additionally, the mayor argues that it is about having “a roadmap where sustainability and digitalization set a path for progress and stability for the engine of the economy of Puerto de la Cruz and the entire northern part of the island.”
