The Public Services Councillor of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Carlos Tarife, shared several pictures on his Instagram account this Monday depicting the condition of the flowers surrounding the iconic clock in García Sanabria park after being trampled. This is an incident for which, as confirmed by Tarife himself, “justice will be served“.

The City Council states that between 8 and 10 acts of vandalism occur annually at the clock, and the repairs can cost up to 5,000 euros, according to a report from the maintenance company. The report indicates that the expenses for repairs can vary between 265 and 530 euros, depending on the duration of each repair.

“A recurring issue”

The incidents of vandalism at the flower clock in Chicharrero Park happen all too frequently, as acknowledged by the current Public Services Councillor last July. This prompted him to initiate the process of persuading the surveillance room of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) and the Government Subdelegation to install a permanent camera in the area for deterrence.

In official documents, sourced by DAILY OF NOTICES, the councillor elaborated that “we have been facing ongoing issues for a while now at García Sanabria Park, specifically at two locations. One near the ponds, where animals are released without control, negatively impacting the park’s flora and fauna, and the other at the Flower Clock, where we frequently have to deal with the unfortunate need to repair the blades of this infrastructure due to disrespectful behaviour.”
